The Old Times Tour
Ancient Hindu Temples & a Holy Spring
The Old times Tour needs a bit of stamina as a lot of steps and walking involved. People with high blood pressure and/or with knee problems advised to choose easier tours.
Please note: Women are not allowed to enter temples, holy springs and other sacred sites during their menstruation.

Step into the cavernous mouth of a demon…This cave is carved into a rock face and inside you can see the phallic symbol of the Hindu god Shiva and his son the elephant headed god Ganesha.
It was possibly carved out during the 11th century around the time when the Majapahit rule came to Bali and then rediscovered by the Dutch in 1923. There are also some rock carvings on the cliff-face, bathing pools and Buddhist stupas can be found here.
On the northern fringes of Ubud in Tampaksiring, we visit one of Bali’s oldest and largest ancient monuments which consist of 10 amazing shrines (candis) cut out of the rock face. A legend tells that the whole group of memorials were carved out of the rock face in one night by the mighty fingernails of Kebo Iwa. Their are different theories regarding the origins of these shrines...
one of them say that the five tombs across the river are dedicated to king Udayana, his queen, their oldest son Airlangga (who ruled eastern Java), and to heir youngest son Anak Wungsu (who ruled Bali from 1050-1077AC) and Marakata.
It is a long trek down about 300 steps through beautiful rice paddies and over the bridge on the sacred Pakrisan river.
This temple was once a state temple in the Pejeng Kingdom. Here, in the inner courtyard, we can see the world largest single piece bronze cast drum in the world called the Fallen Moon of Pejeng.
In Bedulu, close to Goa Gajah, we visit another rock with large carvings called Yeh Puluh.
From the heydays of the Majapahit Empire most of the carved scenes are from everyday life.
