DIVE SITE DESCRIPTIONS

Tulamben Bay Quite rightly Bali’s most popular dive location. World-famous for the 120m USAT Liberty shipwreck,

Wall/Drop-off and Coral Garden, Tulamben Bay offers incredible shore-diving with very easy conditions - perfect for divers

of all levels. The resident marinelife includes a huge school of Big-eyed trevallys, Leaf scorpionfishes, Bumphead

parrotfishes and Pygmy seahorses. Magical Night-diving! Recommended for UW photography and, of course, snorkelling.

Tulamben Area These Day Trips are to lesser-known dive locations. From Tulamben Bay, AMD-B uses local boats to

access other wonderful reefs and slopes such as Emerald, Alamanda and Batu Kelebit; while Kubu and Magic Rocks are

reached by road, as is Seraya for muck-diving.

Amed The reefs just offshore from the quiet fishing and salt-panning village of Amed yield many unexpected treasures.

Due to the easy conditions at Amed, it is suitable both for novice and experienced divers. The water temperature can be

affected by thermoclines, and the visibility is usually 14-22M. The better known sites in the area are Amed Wall, Amed

Reef and Lipah Bay which is 3km to the southeast of Amed and has a 20m coral-encrusted wreck of a steel freighter.

Blue Lagoon AquaMarine’s favourite treasure trove. White sand, huge stands of Staghorn coral, Rhinopias (eschmeyeri

and frondosa), ghostpipefishes, seamoths, Flamboyant cuttlefishes, Solar-powered nudibranches, Cockatoo waspfishes

and more! Also great for snorkelling and highly recommended for Night-diving.

Mimpang/Tepekong Some of Bali’s most stunning diving: vast numbers and great diversity of fishes, abundant sharks

and frequent pelagic visitors, set against chiselled black walls with beautiful, healthy corals and often superb visibility.

Best known for Mimpang’s Shark Point and Tepekong’s Canyon. AMD-B dive staff are highly experienced at these sites.

Gili Biaha AquaMarine is one of only a few companies to offer dive trips to this small crescent-shaped island. There is a

beautiful and healthy reef around the island, a rocky slope on the north side and a rugged black wall around the southern

part: with the breaking waves above, the wall is absolutely beautiful. Divers can expect to see anything from Mola-Mola

(Ocean sunfish) to nudibranchs! There is also a shark cave large enough for six divers, while the protected area outside

the cave has anglerfishes, Leaf scorpionfishes, octopus, cuttlefishes and nudibranches.

Gili Selang This small island on Bali’s eastern point offers both protected reef-diving and drift-diving with big fish action.

The interesting and rich sand slope to the north of the island has some stands of hard branching corals and occasional

bommies, the deeper areas of the slope are more protected and therefore home to sea fans, soft corals, barrel sponges

and coral bushes. Along this sand slope you may well see White-tip reef sharks and Bumphead parrotfishes.

Nusa Penida The largest of three islands lying off Bali’s east coast, Nusa Penida offers drift-diving in mild to strong

currents. The water is cooler but often startlingly clear, with gorgeous corals, prolific fishes, some turtles, reef sharks and,

from July to mid-November, Mola-Mola (Ocean sunfish). Manta Point, on southwest Nusa Penida, is a must-see dive site.

Secret Bay Bali’s best known muck-dive, max depth 12m. The only bay off the Bali Strait making it a large, safe catchtank

for many juveniles and rare macro species including Bobbit worms, Hairy frogfishes, and Banggai cardinalfishes.

Puri Jati Bali’s current hotspot for muck diving. Visibility is 5-25m, and the water warm. A wide, gentle brown sand slope

with patches of seagrass and tufts of lavender soft corals hiding many juvenile batfishes and lionfishes, rare fishes,

crustaceans, cephalopods (including Wonderpus, Blue-ring and Mimic octopus), and fascinating sand dwellers including

unusual Mantis shrimps, Fingered dragonets, wide variety of ghostpipefishes, seahorses, seamoths, demonstingers,

Cockatoo flounders, Veiled melibe nudibranchs, soft coral cowries, stargazers, the list goes on.

Menjangan Island Part of West Bali National Park, Menjangan was Bali’s first internationally-known diving location and is

still famous for its coral walls with easy conditions, warm waters and great visibility that can reach 50m+. Due to the white

sand and good visibility, there is usually a lot of sunlight to bring out the bright colours of the schooling fishes surrounding

you. The walls are covered with soft corals, gorgonian fans and sponges. We frequently see batfishes and Big-eyed

trevallys, as well as turtles and barracudas. Can be done as a Day Trip but we recommend an overnight stay in the area.
